What is Menopause?3 Stages of Menopause – Perimenopause is the time leading up to menopause. It describes a time when hormones start to decline, and menstrual cycles become erratic and irregular. Your ovaries are making very little of both estrogen and progesterone. You may start to experience side effects of menopause, like hot flashes or vaginal dryness. Menopause occurs when you’ve stopped producing the hormones that cause your menstrual period and have gone without a period for 12 months in a row. Once this has occurred, you enter postmenopause. Postmenopause is the time after menopause has occurred. Once this happens, you’re in postmenopause for the rest of your life. Left untreated, your hormone levels will remain low. Estrogen influences how your body uses calcium and maintains cholesterol levels in the blood and keeps the lining of your bladder and urethra healthy. People in postmenopause are at an increased risk for certain health conditions like osteoporosis and heart disease. On average, people go through menopause around 51 years of age; Menopause that occurs at 40 or younger is considered premature menopause. As time passes, the ongoing lack of hormones can cause the body to slow down and even deteriorate faster than it really should.

For progesterone doses, women are able to ingest orally as it does not affect the liver.
